Donald Trump Reportedly Picks Elaine Chao To Lead Department Of Transportation

She is the first American woman of Asian descent to be appointed to a President's Cabinet in our nation's history. Secretary-designate Chao's many years of public service will serve her well in carrying out the hard task - as the President-elect has promised - of rebuilding our badly aging transportation system and infrastructure.

Former Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao arrives at Trump Tower on another day of meetings scheduled with President-elect Donald Trump on November 21 in NY. She is the only member of Bush's original cabinet to have served both two terms of his presidency.

Chao, a Chinese immigrant, arrived in the United States at age 8.

During her time as secretary of the Labor Department, Chao updated the rules that designate which workers are eligible for overtime pay, and tightened financial reporting requirements for unions.

Ms. Chao will face a number of key decisions at the agency that overseas the nation's vehicles, airplanes, railroads, pipelines, ports and highways and likely will be involved in Mr. Trump's plans to rebuild US infrastructure. This is a breaking news story. A year prior, her family donated $40 million to Harvard Business School, where Chao and three of her sisters attended.

Michael Sacco, president of the Seafarers International Union, said, "There is nobody better qualified to be Secretary of Transportation than Elaine Chao".

Chao was also the godmother for Pride of America in June 2005 at festivities in New York City.

Federal auto tech programs get a new leader. Trump spokesman Jason Miller did, however, say that the campaign would announce another Cabinet-level appointment later in the day.

Chao has a hard task ahead of her, as a long-term solution for necessary infrastructure spending has largely eluded lawmakers at all levels of government. She concluded her presentation saying, "I believe there is room in our economy for a variety of approaches".

Unlike her former boss, Chao joined dozens of former George W. Bush administration officials in September in voicing their support for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. "The SBA calls on Congress to quickly confirm Elaine L. Chao as Secretary of Transportation".
