The demonstration was organized by Artyom Mainas, a 27-year-old blogger in Obninsk, a nuclear-research center some 60 miles south of Moscow.

In an address to Russian military leaders and arms makers, Putin said Moscow aimed to produce weapons and technology that would help the country's armed forces maintain the strategic balance around the world, diverting efforts to disrupt it.

"I thought, well, it would be good if we can organize something here in Russian Federation to demonstrate our support to the newly-elected president", Mainas said by telephone Friday.

Russian officials have repeatedly objected to the USA missile defense program, arguing that the recent deployment of a missile shield to Europe threatens Russia's national security. He said he made a decision to act after seeing news from the United States about demonstrations in the wake of Trump's election. Moscow has rejected the argument of American officials that the missile defense program is meant to ward off threats from Iran and North Korea.

"Our task is to effectively neutralize any military threats to Russia's security, including those connected with creation of strategic missile defense, implementation of the global strike concept, the waging of information wars", Putin said during a series of meetings with defense industry officials. Earlier this week, President Obama warned his successor not to embrace Putin too readily. He didn't mention specific weapons programs, but military officials have said Russian Federation is developing new warheads for its ballistic missiles, which would be capable to make sharp maneuvers on their way to target to dodge the enemy defenses.

American experts have repeatedly highlighted how Russian Federation and China have been investing in military modernization and new weapons as budget constraints have compromised the US military's own efforts to advance.

"We will continue to do everything possible to maintain a strategic balance of power", he said, noting as "extremely dangerous" the attempts to change and tip off this balance. The two men agreed that bilateral relations "can't be worse", according to Ushakov, adding that Trump "expressed his readiness not only to normalize ties, but also develop them intensively in all areas". "President-elect Trump noted to President Putin that he is very much looking forward to having a strong and enduring relationship with Russian Federation and the people of Russian Federation", it read.
