"We've had firefighters come in from all over the state, it has been a concerted effort and a successful effort" said Bill Swartley, Public Information Officer with the North Carolina Fire Service.

According to the North Carolina Forest Service, The Party Rock Fire, near Lake Lure, remained at 2,883 acres in size and was 15 percent contained, as of late Sunday afternoon. Brian Haines, a spokesman for the North Carolina Forest Service told, "It's headed toward town". "This is extremely unsafe work, and I especially want to thank the firefighters, first responders, sheriffs and other emergency personnel that have risked their own lives to protect our citizens and property". Authorities are warning people in other rural communities to be ready to flee. The Party Rock fire, which started last Saturday, is just one of over 20 fires burning in North Carolina.

Earlier this week, evacuations were ordered in Lake Lure in Rutherford County along with mandatory evacuations in parts of Graham, Swain, Clay and Macon counties. There are over 5,000 firefighters and support staff from around the country working to suppress the fires, as well as 40 aircraft, including three large air tankers flying out of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Investigators suspect possible arson in these fires.

The humidity, which normally rises at night and helps to suppress the fire until morning, has been low - and that has meant numerous blazes go unfettered and move more quickly, he said. The evacuation was prompted by a major fire run up to and crossing the Shumont Mountain containment line on Friday.

"The fire is now burning down toward a couple of rivers and we want to make sure the fire ties in to those rivers", she said.

A division of the of the U.S. Forest Service reported the almost two dozen fires have been reported across more than 25 square miles within the Nantahala National Forest, WSOC reported.

Meanwhile authorities evacuated dozens of homes in Rabun County after the Rock Mountain Fire grew to more than 2,600 acres, Burnett said. This team will work with the North Carolina team on Saturday and assume command of the fire on Sunday, November 13.

There was some progress reported in fighting wildfires Sunday, according the National Forest Service.
