There wasn't just one running back the University of Alabama defense had to worry about swallowing during its 10-0 beating of LSU.
Hurts again led the Tide into the LSU redzone, rushing seven times for 47 yards.
For the game, Alabama allowed just 125 yards of total offense - the fewest it has allowed all season.
"We had to play some old-school, smashmouth football to win here tonight".
The Tigers were shut out at home for the first time since 2002 - when Saban was the Tigers' coach and Alabama did the blanking 31-0. It was not dominated.
"I feel like this game is all about the trenches", UA defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson said. But it didn't matter because apparently the damage was done. "When they get challenged they usually respond and I thought they responded really well tonight".
That comment led to a question concerning Thomas' comments and if they provided extra motivation.
"We're very disappointed in everything", Orgeron said. "We know what we have to do". Fournette's short burst came during LSU's second drive. In three games against Alabama, which finished second in his recruitment in 2013, Fournette has averaged 2.5 yards a carry as he has gained 145 yards on 57 carries with zero touchdowns.
BOSTON - Lamar Jackson ran for three touchdowns and threw for four more in three quarters to lead Louisville past Boston College.
One play wouldn't have made such a difference if the Tigers offense could have capitalized on good field position in the first half.
"Our guys did it last year, and we played a lot of the same stuff we played a year ago", Saban said. TCU (5-4, 3-3) entered the game after losing back-to-back games for the first time since 2013. Everybody's got a gap. We couldn't get the ball in space like we wanted to. Everybody's got to create a new line of scrimmage and keep contain on a guy. No one expected him to be shutdown to the degree that he was, but nonetheless it was obvious that LSU was going to need a big game from quarterback Danny Etling. When you play a great player like that, everybody has to really focus on doing their job.
Saban has been saying that for three years now, but he has yet to see his words backed up in person.
"Obviously disappointed", said Ed Orgeron, who suffered his first defeat as LSU's interim head coach.
"As an offense", LSU fullback J.D. Maea Teuhema and Josh Boutte played some left tackle. "When you're on the field too long, you get exhausted, and you start missing tackles or whatnot". "Someday they were going to score". It just didn't work out for us. "Our offensive line, we need to open holes and execute better". Our offensive line didn't allow us to go out there and allow us to get long, sustaining drives.
The LSU defense could be headed for another long night against Arkansas on Saturday. They are coming off a good showing against #11 Florida, upending the Gators 31-10.
Throughout the first half, LSU notched only five plays for more than 5 yards. The Bears (6-2, 3-2 Big 12, No. 17 CFP) have lost consecutive games since a 6-0 start.
The psychologist promptly gave numerous top defensive players failing grades, which forced Saban and his fellow Browns coaches to reevaluate what exactly they valued most in defensive players. "You have to give credit to LSU". They had a season-high 283 on the ground and scored the game's final 21 points. The low in 2015 was 19, and the low in 2014 was 14, which is the low for offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin at Alabama as he started that season. "Last time I looked, they were scoring about 44 a game". The true freshman was under fire in a tough road environment against one of the nation's best defenses, but Hurts didn't flinch.
With the first weekend of November games in the books, it's time to take a look at the best of the best and honor some of the top performances from the SEC. But that was followed by Fournette being dropped for a 5-yard loss and two incompletions by Etling, who finished 11 of 24. Alabama managed 323 yards of total offense, though the Tide didn't score until Hurts' 21-yard run with 13:08 to play. The bright spot is that the Tiger defense showed some teeth of it's own, playing the Tide even through three quarters and giving up just 10 points overall.
"We did what we could do for 60 minutes", said sophomore LSU Defensive End Arden Key.
"We want a guy that's going to go hit a guy that weighs 250 pounds running downhill as hard as he can hit him", Saban continued. My frustration level is at a 10. They had had lost nine straight to Florida since joining the league in 1992.
