Speaking at the Stand Up For Heroes benefit in NY on Tuesday night, the former "Daily Show" host explained his feud with Trump, and how he came up with a new nickname for the man who would eventually become the Republican Party's nominee for president of the United States.

Stewart opened the 10th Annual "Stand Up For Heroes", an event held by the Bob Woodruff Foundation and the New York Comedy Festival that helps support veterans and their families, on Tuesday night with a 15 minute set about the race for the presidency. I'm not as much of a political analyst... but if I could ask you a question that I've been saying to my television, it's 'What the [expletive deleted]?

Stewart went on to poke fun at Trump's unfounded claims that the election was "rigged" and that Hillary Clinton and the media were conspiring against his campaign.

"I thought when a guy got off a bus and says, 'I'm going to grab her on the [expletive deleted],' then okay, we're done".

"This is insane", Stewart said.

Stewart stepped down as host of "The Daily Show" in August 2015 after 16 years. "Right now a shit asteroid just hit the earth", Stewart said. "How well would you be doing if the man wasn't keeping you down?", Stewart said.

Stewart also shared a story about a Twitter spat with Trump after the GOP nominee chastised him about changing his last name from Leibowitz to Stewart when Stewart became a comedian. "This led to a war of words between the two and eventually Stewart said Trump's original name was "[expletive deleted] Von Clownstick".

Trump was unwittingly goaded into replying to Stewart's joke on Twitter and Stewart pointed that out as a sign he is unfit to be president.

"Vote wisely this November 8", Stewart said.
