Rosberg said that he does not care too much about any criticisms he faces from either inside the paddock or from fans about his achievements, because his focus is simply on delivering his maiden F1 title.

Lewis Hamilton does not believe teammate Nico Rosberg has dramatically changed his approach this year, despite his rival holding a 26-point lead over him in the drivers' championship with just three races remaining.

Rosberg can even seal his title with three races remaining, if he wins the Mexican GP race and defending champion Lewis Hamilton retires or fails to score a point.

Perez said Force India had had an outstanding year in 2016, adding that "we're fourth (in the constructors' championship standings) because we deserve it".

Asked about the benefits of another Hamilton championship, Ecclestone said: "He [Hamilton] won't do anything to enhance the championship (if he wins) because he's already a world champion".

"In terms of championship, it is not within my control if I get it this weekend". Singapore obviously wasn't great, then Malaysia was great and then it wasn't great [when his engine blew].

"There are still points available, anything is possible. I have never given up in my life and I don't plan on doing so", Hamilton was quoted as saying by the Sky Sports.

While Hamilton has suffered bad luck, Rosberg has been largely untroubled all season and can clinch the title this weekend in Mexico if he wins and Hamilton is 10th or lower.

He said: "Lewis was in such good form in Austin it's hard to see past him winning for a second week in a row, despite the fact that Nico dominated proceedings in Mexico a year ago".

"People can interpret it any way they want", he continued, "but all I know is I've got to win and I'm going to try and do the best job I can, and really trying to apply everything I've learned over all those years".

With three more races to go, Hamilton will need nothing less than finishes at the top step of the podium. "So I think it will still be very exciting until the last race", the Red Bull driver told Germany's Sport Bild. The previous occasion came in 2007 when Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen came from 13 points back - the equivalent of 37 points today - to deny Hamilton, then at McLaren, the title in his debut year.

It is no secret that despite being on the same team, that there is a stiff competition between Hamilton and Rosberg.

"You are talking about what other people think and their opinions", Rosberg, 31, said in response on Thursday. It feels right. I like to keep it simple, be in the moment and just do what I can focus on.
