Hillary Clinton Considered Out Apple CEO Tim Cook as Running Mate

The message from Podesta sent to Clinton features a "first cut of people to consider for VP".

Bill and Melinda Gates were apparently under consideration for Hillary Clinton's vice presidential nominee, according to an email from campaign chair John Podesta, released by Julian Assange's WikiLeaks.

GM CEO Mary Barra, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Xerox CEO Ursula Burns, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, philanthropist Melinda Gates, Coca-Cola CEO Muhtar Kent, Rockefeller Foundation President Judith Rodin and Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz - wealthy tech and business leaders.

Reporter Alex Griswold also posted the letter on Twitter.

The broad list also included Sen.

Among Clinton's white male political picks she has longtime Clinton ally, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, and politicians from swing states including Iowa's Tom Vilsack, the current secretary of agriculture, and Ohio Sen.

There were seven black men Clinton was considering including more well known names like New Jersey Sen. Bill Gates has repeatedly said he isn't interested in a career in politics.

How much farther Cook and Mr & Mrs Gates got in the process and whether they were ever truly considered by Clinton & unknown. The email also identified well known military figures - such as Navy Admiral Mike Mullen, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Marine Corps General John Allen, the former commander of USA forces in Afghanistan - as well as Clinton's opponent for the Democratic nomination, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and other lawmakers.

It's worth noting that while Tim Cook has held Republican fundraisers in the past, including one in 2016, the Apple boss has been firmly opposed to a Donald Trump presidency.

With 20 days to go before Election Day, the Clinton campaign was hit with more leaked emails - among them, an email calling Sanders a "doofus" - and a video, released by a group calling itself Project Veritas. With the selection of senator Tim Kaine as the official running mate, of course, all speculation is now moot.
