Investigators are treating the incident as arson.

Pence's visit to the state comes two days after a local Republican Party office in Orange County, North Carolina, was damaged by a Molotov cocktail thrown through a window.

Pence noted political figures across the spectrum have condemned the act committed over the weekend.

While polls have continually shown Trump trailing Clinton in MI, they also show the wealthy NY businessman leading the former First Lady in Macomb County, which gained national recognition in the 1980s as the home to Reagan Democrats, the name given to blue collar traditional Democrats who crossed over to vote for the former Republican president in 1980 and 1984.

"We have had people working on it from three different federal agencies, state agencies, our local folks, all day today, running down leads, working different parts of the investigation", Hillsborough Police Chief Duane Hampton told The Associated Press in a phone interview. Investigators believe that sometime between midnight and 9 a.m. Sunday, someone threw a bottle filled with flammable liquid through the front window of the building.

On the back of an adjacent building, the message "Nazi Republicans leave town or else" was sprayed on the wall with spray paint along with a swastika. He said the office is temporarily operating out of a bus. They said no one was in the party office at the time, but the substance burned furniture and charred campaign signs. The online campaign he says is consistent with the president's optimistic vision about the country and that progress can be made on key issues by focusing on shared values. "There is no justification for the use of violence to advance a political agenda".

Both Hillary Clinton and Hillary for NC, supporters of Democratic presidential nominee, tweeted Sunday afternoon, calling the incident "horrific and unacceptable". Trump has drawn crowds in the state's rural areas, manufacturing centers and agriculture communities, while the Clinton campaign has garnered support in the state's more urban areas and liberal university towns, including Orange County, with nearby UNC- Chapel Hill, where the the attack on GOP headquarters occurred. Registered Democrats outnumber Republicans 3-1 in the county.

Republican vice presidential candidate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, right, enters the Orange County Republican Party Headquarters with Matthew Arnold, N.C. fourth congressional district chair, left, Tuesday, Oct.

The head of the Arizona Republican Party says its office received a bomb threat and it likely will hire private security guards. Police said nothing was found during a search of the premises.
