Charlie Strong's case no better after Texas falls to No. 20 Oklahoma

Oklahoma is back in possession of the golden hat. Oklahoma is still smarting from its lone regular-season loss of a year ago at the hands of Texas I believe the momentum the Sooners gained from the win at TCU will carry over on Saturday.

Mayfield, who entered the Cotton Bowl on Saturday morning wearing a protective boot also got in the record books.

The Sooners running game continued to rumble, but a concerted effort by the Longhorns to rip out the football finally paid off. Mixon's knee was down or extremely close to being down after getting into scoring position, but officials called the play a fumble on the field and there was not enough to overturn the play following review.

"Very fortunate to lose the turnover battle the way we did and still win", Sooners coach Bob Stoops said. "But, on defense at times had some great.backed up the offense after some turnovers".

And so while the 'Horns converted the field goal, scoring only three points from two turnovers wasn't an ideal scenario. "We knew what they were doing the whole game just, mental breakdowns".

In the second half, Oklahoma stopped screwing around.

. Kent Perkins and Armanti Foreman stood in the losing locker room and pleaded with the team for harder work in practice in the week ahead.

Last year, the Oklahoma Sooners were substantial favorites, but it was the Longhorns who came away with a 24-17 victory. Mayfield rolled to his right trying to either run for a first down or hit wide receiver Dede Westbrook. He had over two yards receiving and three touchdowns on the day.

"When he's healthy, nobody can compete with his speed". "That's the thing that I've always loved to exploit, the fact that he can outrun people". The first half looked to have shown improvements, but that was ended when Baker Mayfield launched a bomb down the field to Westbrook who broke free from the coverage for a 71-yard go-ahead touchdown. And if other conference champs and top teams around college football get to the end of the season with one or two losses, should Oklahoma's two losses really be held against it? Seeing a stadium split right down the middle with fans is unique, and while both of these teams are likely out of the postseason picture that matters, they're playing for the thing that maybe matters most anyway: pride. "For us to recover, that was a great job by special teams and a great job by the defense to finish it off", offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley said.

However, Texas (2-3, 0-2 Big 12) played well defensively in the first half, trailing 14-13 at the break. True freshman Parnell Motley stepped in for Quick at cornerback, and sophomore Will Sunderland finished with eight tackles and a key fourth-quarter interception.

"Will has a lot of ability". "That's a starting point that we need". With the win, OU improves to 3-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference play. On another Westbrook score, Mayfield found his target in the soft spot of a zone, leaving the Longhorns unsure of whose responsibility he was. "The doctor told me there was a huge possibility that I wouldn't play football again, but I overcame those thoughts and here I am now".

Mayfield connected with Westbrook for a lovely 22-yard catch up the right sideline for a first down, where he was able to get a foot down despite the contact from the UT defensive back. For the first time in school history, they had a 300-yard passer, a 200-yard receiver and a 200-yard rusher all in the same game.
