Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has confirmed that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will miss Week 7's game against the New England Patriots after undergoing minor knee surgery.

Head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed Tuesday that Roethlisberger has been officially ruled out after undergoing surgery to fix a torn meniscus on Monday.

Landry Jones will receive all of the first-team reps in practice this week in preparation to start against the New England Patriots, Tomlin said.

"I'll say this about Landry: He's been here a number of years now", Tomlin said.

Roethlisberger missed one series of Sunday's loss to the Dolphins with a knee injury, which was declared a torn meniscus.

"The more you play, the more experience you get, the more confidence you get", Jones said. The Steelers boast one of the league's top running backs in Le'Veon Bell and one of its most unsafe wide receivers in Antonio Brown, and DeAngelo Williams and Sammie Coates also are enjoying strong seasons.

Tomlin said the Steelers will form their game plan around the progression Jones shows this week. "We're simply going to let practice execution be our guide in terms of the things that we lean on or emphasize or minimize".

The Steelers will also be without defensive end Cam Heyward, who Tomlin ruled out with a hamstring.

Heyward, who also struggled with a high ankle sprain early in the year, has 17 tackles and three sacks on the year.
