She was rushed to a nearby hospital but sadly died from her injuries, officials say. Police say she was transported by a private vehicle.

"She was just here last week for fall break".

Witnesses reported an exchange of gunfire between a gray Dodge Charger and a dark-colored sports auto with tinted windows, police said.

Gunfire was exchanged between two vehicles - described as a dark colored sports auto and a gray Dodge Charger.

Officers say they have a description of the vehicles involved as an either blue or black Dodge Charger and a charcoal gray Dodge Charger.

According to MileSplit, Trinity was a state runner-up in middle school in the 100 meters.

Trinity had followed in her sprinter father's footsteps and was making a name for herself as a Lafayette High School athlete.

"A life of such potential cut so tragically short".
