While walking home from the Flatbush Park Jewish Center in Mill Basin at about 3:45pm on Wednesday, two Jewish brothers, dressed in yarmulkes and prayer shawls, were attacked by a group of three men, according to the police and the Daily News.

The assault is being investigated by police as a hate crime, according to DCPI. The department's Hate Crime Task Force is leading the investigation.

The brothers, identified as Dani and Eli Zainback, were wearing their prayer shawls and kippot when they left the Flatbush Park Jewish Center on Wednesday afternoon.

The three men, all white, were heading in the opposite direction, and when they said, "F--ing Jews", police said. The older brother responded by telling the men it was their holiday, and touching one of the men. The assault continued when the trio attacked both brothers, leaving the siblings with cuts and bruises across their bodies. The attackers fled the scene.

The brothers were treated for their injuries at nearby New York Community Hospital and later released.

"This appalling act of apparently hate-inspired violence is a sad reminder that despite the unprecedented freedom of religious practice that Jews enjoy today in America, there remains much work to be done to combat the evils of anti-Semitism and bigotry, including right here at home in New York City", Evan R. Bernstein, the ADL New York Regional Director, wrote in an emailed statement.
