The CDC has confirmed that the Zika virus is responsible for causing severe defects in unborn children, including microcephaly, which leaves babies with abnormally small heads and often with brains that do not develop properly.

Earlier this week, the Ministry of Health (MOH) stopped offering free Zika testing, except for symptomatic pregnant women and their husbands.

To brace for the eventuality, Hotez said, India needs to start seroprevalence studies, which will determine how widespread past Zika infections were in India over previous decades and whether or not India remains susceptible to the new avatar of Zika.

In response to potential pandemic status, USA President Obama requested for financial support from the government to battle the infection last February. Democrats objected to a provision that would have barred funding to Planned Parenthood. A Capitol Hill fight this summer stalled the Zika aid. That money is nearly gone.

A $1.1 billion bill to combat Zika failed Tuesday in the Senate on a 52-46 vote.

Congress has been unable to agree on a funding plan.

Jillian Oliveras, a spokesman for Puerto Rico's Health Department, said no further information would be released because of privacy laws. But be careful as to where you spray chemicals as it could be inhaled by a person which is bad for the health, the NBCNews report said.

Zika is also linked to the Guillain-Barré syndrome, a condition of paralysis in adults.

In total, bees contribute more than $15 billion to US crop production, hardly small potatoes, reported Canadian Geographic (CG). "We have to figure out how to make this work".

Since the summertime impasse, Zika has spread even more widely, and frustration is mounting from lawmakers representing affected areas. U.S. Reps. Frederica Wilson and David Jolly, both of Florida, and Ann Kirkpatrick of Arizona joined Clawson as original cosponsors of the legislation.

Perhaps then we could get some forward momentum on Zika, before it is too late.

He said he expects that politicians will take a more serious look at passing Zika funding after the election, much like what happened with Ebola funding in 2014.
